Buying cigars can be like buying fine wine….it can get expensive! Don’t shortchange yourself or your cigars buy storing them in a substandard cigar humidor. This article will discuss the major components of a quality cigar humidor.

Below is a short list of the more important items to consider when selecting a cigar humidor:

1. Seal: The most important aspect of a humidor is its ability to hold humidity. The seal will do that. When evaluating a cigar humidor, drop the lid from approximately 2-3 inches to see how it closes. If it lands on a cushion of air, the seal is fine. If it “clangs” when the lid is dropped, walk away because that isn’t a quality humidor….in fact, “it’s just a box”. Look to see what hinges are used to close the lid. The best cigar humidors use hidden quadrant hinges and/or piano hinges, as they supply the best seal possible.

2. Exterior Construction: The sidewalls and bottom of the humidor should be at a minimum, ½” thick. Having the interior Kiln-Dried gets rid of all the natural moisture that all woods contain. If the humidor you’re looking at has trays, make sure that they are ventilated to assure the humidity in your humidor can circulate to all cigars in the humidor.

4. Style: Are you interested in impressing your poker playing buddies or will a less fancy cigar humidor do? Matte finish or a multiple layer high gloss finish? One for the golf bag? 5. Quality: Don’t let price alone influence your decision as to what is a quality cigar humidor. What happens to a cigar if it is left outside of a Humidor?

Normally when you get your cigars from a cigar shop it will be humidified correctly. It will be given to you in some sort of cellophane giving you enough time to take it home and get it into a humidor at home.

One of things I like to see if you are going to keep them out of humidors then put them into a zip lock back. One of my favorite things from my providers will put them into individualized shaped zip lock bags for cigars. Not everyone does this. I also like to have some of my cigars in glass. These are harder to have and wonderful to have in your possession and carry them with you anywhere for any amount of time whether you are in the desert or skiing or wherever.

If you are carrying a bunch of cigars you can put them in a larger zip lock bag with moistened cigar tobacco inside of it is one of the best way to keep the humidity in your bag. Make sure it stays cool and out of the sun to protect it. If for some odd reason you leave your cigar out of humidity it has a high probability it will dry out.

How do you recharge a cigar? It is possible but will take 2-3 times as long as originally took.. Put it into your humidor and let it sit for a couple of days 3-5 days whatever it takes and it should be fine. When you bring your cigars home you will notice that many boxes that cigars come in it will come with cedar dividers. You don’t want the cigars that are from different providers you don’t want to put them together unless you don’t mind them being a little tainted. The cedar inserts will allow your cigars to be wonderful in their own realm. You want to keep them just as the Cuban roller intended them to be.
