With a low level of large losses in the quarter, aided by the tranquil hurricane season, the company’s reinsurance and capital markets segments performed well.

Analysts like what they heard as 8 out of 12 raised 2009 estimates in the last month. Over the past 90 days, 2009 estimates jumped 22.4% to $12.68 from $10.36 per share. Analysts expect 2009 earnings growth of 50.22%.

The company has a forward P/E of just 6.12 and sports a price-to-book ratio of 0.83. The PEG ratio is also only 0.64.

The results were boosted by lower than expected catastrophe activity and strong investment results.

Analysts are bullish on Platinum Underwriter as 2 out of 5 have raised full year estimates in the last 30 days. The 2009 Zacks Consensus jumped to $5.89 from $5.76 per share in that time. Analysts expect 2009 earnings growth of 62.76%.

How to make a cheap gardening cart

Things you’ll need:

Graph paper and pencil
Wood box like wine crate or produce crate.
Pieces of 1×2 and 1×4 pine or fir material, can be from scraps
Lawnmower, tricycle or old kids wagon wheels(4) with open center for axles
4 sets of bolts screws and washers, about 3”” long as necessary to secure wheels to wood box
4 pieces of plastic tubing cut to fit inside wheels for blt inserts, allowing free movement of wheels
8 plastic washers approx. 1/8” thick for attaching wagon wheels (to allow bolts to turn freely)
One 3-inch galvanized hinge and screws for attaching handle piece to wood wagon box
One galvanized screen door handle for wagon handle end.
Portable drill with drill and screwdriver bits
Small tapered wood spacers or pieces of cedar builder shims.
Small saw and several small screws to secure wood to sides of wagon outside as spacer for wheels.
Strong construction adhesive to glue wood parts together
Paint and brushes
WD-40 with spray tubing

Sketch wood garden cart to fit size of box you find. Use graph paper, sketch to scale.  Include side mounting pieces for wheels, handle for front and cross piece at handle end.  You could use a recycled handl from an old child’s wagon if you can find one.   Layout items on your workbench or garden shed table.  Make sure you have plenty of room.  Study your scrounged wheels to see the size plastic tubing and bolts, nuts, and washers you will need.  You may want to work with one wheel and try different size bolts to see which works best.  Be sure and use plastic washers at both sides of wheel so wheels can turn freely when bolts are tightened securely to wagon.  A little advance planning goes a long way.  You can even pre-paint all wood parts if you wish in advance of assembly.

Glue and screw side 1x2s to wood box for wheel spacers. Let glue dry.  Mark carefully and drill through wood box and side spacers for all 4 wagon wheel locations.  Set wood box up on wood to allow wheel clearance all around.  Working on one wheel at a time, insert plastic tubing, then washers and bolt for wheel.  Don’t forget that the plastic washer fits directly on the outside and inside surface of the recycled wheel and the bolt passes through the plastic tubing and is secured with metal washers and nut on inside surface of wood cart.  Tighten finger tight and move to next wheel also finger tightening.  When all wheels have been installed, wrench tighten all four axle bolts and nuts.  Do not strip. Tighten just enough torque to insure they will remain in place without loosening (at least for quite a while after several uses).  You can always retighten as necessary.

Make handle piece by screwing hinge to top part of outside front of wood box. Hint:  Make the handle first, then screw hinge to box.  Locate the cross piece of the handle at end of the long handle piece, glue and screw and let glue dry.  Then attach the hinge at cart end of the long handle to the cart.  Prop up the handle to make screwing easier.  Loosely secure all screws for future adjustment.  Finally, attach the screen door handle to the cross piece at the long wood handle end. Screw door handle securely, then go the other end and finish by tightening all screws on the hinge securely also.  Paint your new gardening cart if you did not not pre-paint, then oil your wagon wheel bolts with a little WD40.  Load it up with gardening supplies, including your gardening pot tool caddy, and take it for a spin!

Tips and Warnings:

Do make layout on graph paper of gardening cart and check location and fitting of all pieces before you cut and assemble.
Pre-paint all pieces of wood prior to assembly.  Touch up as needed after all together.
Take care when drilling holes.  Beware of splitting wood.
Be sure and let glued parts dry thoroughly before moving to next step and using the gardening cart.

How to make a cheap gardening pot tool caddy

Weary of forgetting that special gardening hand tool when you make the trek out back to your garden? Don’t want to pay and arm and a leg to purchase some fancy container or toolbox?  Here’s an idea for a cheap gardening pot caddy made from recycled plastic pots, the kind you find at nurseries and usually toss out each planting season. It’s cheap and easy to make.

How to make a cheap gardening pot tool caddy

Things you’ll need:

Graph paper and pencil
3 plastic plant pots from landscape nursery, 6-8 inch diameter.
3 ft. long piece of broom handle
Bicycle handlebar grip that fits over broom handle
6 sets of #8 screws and washers, about 1 1/2” long as necessary to secure pots to broom handle
One 3-inch galvanized #10 screw
Portable drill with drill and screwdriver bits
Small tapered wood spacers or pieces of cedar builder shims.
Small saw
Strong construction adhesive to glue posts to wood base and each other
Paint and brushes

Collect things you’ll need, sketch pot arrangement and location. Layout items on your workbench or garden shed table.  Make sure you have plenty of room.  Clean each plastic nursery pot with clear water and let dry completely.   Most bicycle shops will have a used bicycle grip you can purchase cheaply. Perhaps you have an adult or child’s bike that needs new grips, buy them and use one of the old ones.  Make a sketch on graph paper of what you are building.   You will be creating a 3-pot caddy with the broom handle acting as  a vertical carrying handle.  It will be attached to a round wood base with the long screw, and all 3 potrs will be bolted and glued to the pots (cedar builders shims will be used as spaces so you get good bearing). You will also glue the end of the broom handle where it meets the round wood  base just before you screw it on. Pre-drill hole in broom handle and wood base, glue, and screw through base into vertical brom handle. Place the three pots where they are touching each other on top of the wood base. Then pull them apart just enough to insert the broom handle down to the base so that it touches each pot. See sketch. Do a couple of trials to make sure the pots and broom handle are each placed properly.  Then mark two screw holes on each plastic pot.  Stagger screw locations and take care to miss other pot’s screws.

Drill pot screw holes carefully through each plastic pot and then reset pots next to broom handle. Mark all drill holes on the broom handle.  Remove pots and pre-drill screw holes in broom handle. Set one pot in place carefully with glue on bottom where it meets the rounded wood base and check measurement for making three wood shims to fill the slanted pot sides to the vertical broom handle. Cut and glue measured shims to side of pots avoiding drilled screw holes.  Let glue set on bottom and at shims, then attach each pot one at a time with the screws and washers placed on inside and outside of see alspots. Be sure and let all glue dry thoroughly before moving to next pot. Your 3 pots should be snug up against  all shims and broom handle, fastened securely.

Slide bicycle grip over broom handle all the way down. Place spot of glue inside handle to insure grip does not slip.  Tighten all screws again securely.  Paint broom handle and pots colors of your choosing.  You may want to paint each pot a different color and the broom handle a different color than the grip so grip can easily be seen.  Let gardening pot tool caddy dry overnight before using.  Every time you prepare to go to your garden,  fill the caddy with the appropriate tools for the gardening task at hand and carry it to your spot in the garden and work with a smile on your face!  If a pot ever cracks, simply remove screws and replace with another like gardening plastic pot and repaint caddy pots.

The Effects of Cigarette Filters on Smoking Cheap Cigarettes

Here is the beauty of this custom label making process:

Multiple yet individual custom labels. For example you could setup your word processor to print 10 labels per page and print a unique jar number on each custom label (6 of 24).
